Privacy Policy
SC-Links.org is a fan-made Star Citizen information and resource directory. This website is not owned by, operated by, endorsed by, or officially connected with Cloud Imperium Games or Roberts Space Industries.
This Privacy Policy explains what information SC-Links.org collects, how that information is used, and what choices you have.
Who we are
SC-Links.org is the public name of an independently operated, fan-made website based in the United Kingdom. It is not a registered company or business.
Our website address is https://sc-links.org.
For privacy questions, account removal requests, or data requests, please contact admin@sc-links.org.
What personal data we collect
SC-Links.org may collect basic website visitor information, registered member account information, community-link submissions, votes, referral-rotation information, security information, cookie choices and analytics information.
Website visitor information
When you visit the website, some technical information may be processed automatically. This may include your IP address, browser type, device type, approximate location, pages visited, date and time of visit, referring website, and search query information where available.
This information is used to understand website traffic, improve the website, detect problems, and help protect the site from abuse.
Registered member accounts
If you create a member account, we collect the information needed to create and manage it. This may include your username, email address, password in securely hashed form, account creation date, login activity, email verification status, and IP address used during registration or login.
Passwords are not stored in plain text. If you choose Sign in with Google, Google provides the name, email address and account identifier needed to create or sign in to the same SC-Links.org member account. SC-Links.org does not receive or store your Google password.
User-submitted links
If you use the “Community suggested Star Citizen links” or “Links you would like” feature, we may store the link title, website URL, link description, suggested category or categories, your user account ID, submission date and time, link score, vote totals, and voting history.
Submitted links are intended to be public once added to the page. Please do not submit personal information inside link titles or descriptions.
Voting on links
If you vote on a submitted link, we store enough information to make sure each registered member can vote only once per link. This may include your user account ID, the link you voted on, whether the vote was an up-vote or down-vote, and the date and time of the vote.
Votes are used to rank links so useful resources appear higher on the page.
Referral rotation participation
If you submit a Star Citizen referral code for the referral rotation, we may store your RSI handle, referral code, avatar reference, linked member account, submission and synchronisation dates, dates needed to administer the rotation, rotation status, and click or count information used to operate the feature.
Referral codes, RSI handles and avatars are intended to be displayed publicly when selected by the rotator. Do not submit a code or handle that you do not want displayed.
Cookies
SC-Links.org uses cookies and similar technologies for essential website functions, login sessions, security, privacy choices, analytics and performance.
Essential cookies may keep registered users signed in, remember consent choices and protect account access. They are used where necessary for the service to work.
Kansleri Cookie Consent and the WP Consent API are used to record and communicate cookie choices. Optional analytics, marketing and preference cookies are denied until you choose to allow them. The banner provides Accept all, Reject all and Customise choices, and the floating Cookie settings control lets you change or withdraw your choice later.
To provide a local audit record of cookie choices, Kansleri stores each consent event for up to 13 months. The record includes the date and time, the choice made, the allowed categories, the policy version and a SHA-256 hash derived from the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent. The raw IP address and user-agent are not stored in that consent log, and the log is not sent to Kansleri. Daily totals of Accept all, Reject all and Customise choices are kept locally for up to 90 days.
Embedded content and external services may also use cookies or similar technologies under their own privacy terms.

Why we use your data
We use personal data to provide and manage member accounts, verify email addresses, operate the referral rotation, accept and rank useful Star Citizen links, prevent duplicate or abusive submissions, maintain security, understand which resources are useful, improve content and performance, recover from technical problems, and meet legal obligations.
Lawful basis for processing
Where the UK GDPR or similar privacy laws apply, we rely on different lawful bases depending on the purpose.
We use contract or service delivery where processing is needed to create and manage member accounts and provide member features.
We use legitimate interests where processing is needed to protect the website, prevent abuse, improve content, maintain security, analyse basic site performance, operate backups, and keep the website running properly.
We use consent where required for non-essential cookies, analytics, or optional tracking tools.
We use legal obligation where we must keep or disclose information to comply with the law.
Member registration and verification
Email registration uses a verification message delivered through SMTP2GO. The verification link expires after 24 hours. Sign in with Google can be used as an alternative way to create or access the same SC-Links.org member account.
Cloudflare Turnstile, rate limiting and security checks are used to reduce spam and automated abuse. These checks may process technical information such as IP address, browser, device and challenge data.
Only verified logged-in members can submit links or vote on links.
Referral links and blocked content
The community link feature is designed for useful Star Citizen resources, not referral farming.
SC-Links.org may automatically block or reject Star Citizen referral codes, RSI enlist or referral links, duplicate website domains, spam links, malicious links, misleading descriptions, and links that are not relevant to Star Citizen resources.
Admins may remove submitted links if they are abusive, unsafe, misleading, spam, duplicated, broken, or against the purpose of the site.
Analytics and statistics
SC-Links.org uses Google Analytics, Google Search Console and local Visitor Statistics to understand website traffic and search performance.
Google Analytics and local statistics may process information such as pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type, session information, referring websites and IP address. Where consent is required, Google Analytics uses consent controls before optional analytics storage is allowed.
Google Search Console supplies site-level information such as search impressions, clicks, positions and search terms. This helps us understand how people find the site and which pages can be improved.
Google may process data under the Google Privacy Policy.
Embedded content and external links
Pages on SC-Links.org may include links to other websites or embedded content from other websites, such as videos, maps, tools, guides, or Star Citizen community resources.
Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if you visited that website directly. Those websites may collect data, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, or monitor your interaction with their content.
SC-Links.org is not responsible for the privacy practices, security, accuracy, or content of external websites.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data.
Google provides Analytics, Search Console and Sign in with Google. Cloudflare provides Turnstile anti-bot checks. SMTP2GO delivers verification and operational site email. Automattic’s Jetpack services provide site security, firewall, brute-force protection and downtime monitoring; Jetpack Stats is disabled.
Hosting and controlled backup systems may also process or store information needed to operate and restore the website.
These providers process information under their own terms and privacy notices: Google, Cloudflare, SMTP2GO and Automattic.
Data is only shared where needed to operate, secure, improve, restore, or legally protect the website. We do not use personal data for unrelated purposes.
International data transfers
Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where privacy law requires it, we rely on recognised safeguards such as an adequacy decision or approved contractual protections. Contact admin@sc-links.org if you would like more information about the safeguards used for a particular service.
Backups
SC-Links.org is backed up automatically.
Backups may include member account information, submitted links, votes, uploaded media, security records and other information needed to restore the service.
Backups are kept so the website can be restored if something breaks, is accidentally deleted, or is damaged by an update, technical problem, or security issue.
Backup copies are kept in controlled storage and older copies are removed or overwritten according to the backup retention schedule.
Because backups are designed for disaster recovery, deleted information may remain inside older backup archives until those backups are automatically overwritten or removed.
How long we keep data
We keep data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected.
Member accounts are kept until the account is deleted or removal is requested. Email-verification links expire after 24 hours.
Submitted community links are kept while they remain useful or until removed by an admin. A deleted community link may remain in a recovery area for up to seven days before permanent removal.
Referral-rotation entries are kept while they are used for the feature or until they are removed. Votes are kept while the related community link remains listed, so voting rules continue to work.
Security logs are kept only as long as needed to detect abuse, investigate problems, or protect the site.
Cookie consent log records are kept for up to 13 months, and local daily consent totals are kept for up to 90 days.
Analytics data is kept according to the retention settings of the analytics service being used.
Backups are kept according to the website backup retention setup and are overwritten automatically over time.
Data protection complaints
If you believe SC-Links.org has not handled your personal information properly, you can make a data protection complaint by emailing admin@sc-links.org. Please make clear that your message is a data protection complaint and explain the concern you would like us to investigate.
We will acknowledge a data protection complaint within 30 days of receiving it, take appropriate steps to investigate it without undue delay, keep you informed as appropriate, and tell you the outcome without undue delay.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data. These may include the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, ask for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct inaccurate information, ask us to delete your account or personal data, object to certain types of processing, ask us to restrict how your data is used, withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, and complain to a data protection authority.
In the UK, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office if you believe your personal data has not been handled properly.
Account deletion
Registered members can request account deletion by contacting admin@sc-links.org.
Deleting an account may remove or anonymise personal account data. Public community links or referral information may be removed, anonymised, or retained without the member-account association where this is necessary to preserve useful public content or system integrity.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the website and user accounts. These measures may include hashed passwords, email verification, anti-bot checks, limited member permissions, backups, software updates, server-side security controls and abuse prevention.
No website can guarantee complete security, but we aim to reduce risk and protect member data responsibly.
Children
SC-Links.org is a general Star Citizen community resource and is not specifically directed at children. If you are not old enough to consent to an online service where you live, ask a parent or guardian before creating an account or submitting personal information.
Changes to this policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when the services offered by SC-Links.org change, when data-handling practices change, or when legal requirements are updated.
The latest version will always be available on this page.
